Trade In and Trade Up Event:

What a fun day! On May 3rd, Stein Mart held a “Trade In and Trade Up” event for Dress For Success. At all three locations of Stein Marts, D/S volunteers were available to accept clothing donated for this worthy program. It was 11-hour days with 4-hour shifts. Traci and I were excited to be involved in this fun promotion.
For every item of clothing donated, you would receive up to four coupons of 20% off anything in the store in any Stein Mart location! Coupons are good through May 20. Therefore, they “traded in gently used clothing” and received a coupon to invest in “trading up” to new clothing! It was a Win/Win, and we as the volunteers won because people were so generous and interested in learning about how they could help D/S too!
Traci was great at greeting the donors, I was the receiver of the donations, and I would count the articles of clothing, accessories and such. Traci being a natural sales person chatted up the value of volunteering for D/S and even found five new possible volunteers for the program! (Four program volunteers and one new mentor!)
Traci also invited all the donors to check out:
www.SistersConnection.Ning.com to see how they can be a part of the movement of Women helping Women!
In our shift, we collected 560 new items toward our Sisters Connection 2008 Goals PLUS 4 program volunteers Plus the 1 mentor….it was a very profitable day for the Sisters Connection! Notice the new balances on the tally board to the left!
In addition, one of our new volunteers and Sister, Ann Phoenix also
ran the booth on Sunday and due to her hard work and volunteering her day she collected 350 additional items for Dress for Success! That brings our New Inventory Goal tally to 1,253 items! WE WENT OVER GOAL!!! YEAH!!
Now we don't want to stop collecting new inventory for D/S but we are going to focus on some of the other goals. We need cash donations ($4,575) and volunteers (19) and mentors (5) and we MUST have a new digital camera and a new flip video for D/S offices. So that they can record the women that are helped and use it for marketing purposes! Does ANYONE have any ideas that we can use to accomplish these goals? For all those out there that said they would be interested in mentoring - MAKE THE CALL! Join the mentorship program! And make sure you tell them that you are a SISTER from Sisters Connection and then tell us!
Ok Ladies, we will be including any and all volunteer opportunities here and hopefully for the Fall “Trade In and Trade Up” fundraiser will be “womaned” by all members of the Sisters Connection!
In addition, for you ladies out that are not local to Ohio….how about you take the lead here and contact a clothing store in your area and get a Trade In and Trade up kind of event in your area! Moreover, your donations will count toward our Sisters Connection goals and I’m sure there is a Dress for Success location near to you too! We will advertise and help you in any way we can!
Check out the Photo's of the event on the new Photo's page! See who Melony Butler is- she is our connetion at Dress for Success Cleveland. She is also joining our Sisters Connection - so check out her page!
OUR FIRST EVENT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!!!

THANK YOU LADIES!!!!
We are so happy that so many interesting woman joined us at the Copper Cup Coffee Company yesterday! It was a beautiful day and a great day to get together and join to help our focus charity: Dress for Success! We launched our goals for Sisters Connection for the first time and got a great response to fullfilling those goals. We raised $425.00 in cash donations and 60 new items for the Inventory for the Dressing Program at Dress for Success.
Those items will be added to the room full of donations that were collected at Prudential Lucien Realty offices. We will give the grand total of those donations in an update when they are sorted and dropped off at the Dress for Success offices on Monday.
We were also happy to see all the networking that took place at the end of the event. That is also a big part of the Sisters Connection Movement: connecting woman with other woman.
My sister and I are thrilled to have our first event come to a reality. We hope that everyone walked out with at least one new action that they are going to commit themselves to- to improve their lives. For when woman improve themselves - it effects the world! WE are a powerful element!

Tell your friends about SistersConnection.Ning.com- have them join the movement!

Thanks for everything!
Kym

UPDATE: On Monday we added 300 more items to Sisters Connection's donation to Dress for Success! It was from the Prudential Lucien Realty offices where they held a collection site! The collection included BEAUTIFUL suits of all kinds and many more purses, shoes and jelwery! So that brings us to 360 new items added to the Inventory for the Dressing Program! It was exciting to be able to load up DFS carts with wonderful items and a bulging envelope of cash donations. Thank you sisters for all your effort and commitment!

A Message from the ORIGINAL Sisters Connection by: Traci McBride

My sister Kym and I are every woman - our life experiances are similar yet very diverse. We may be biological sisters but we consider all women our sisters - we are all on a similar journey just each at different points.

We welcome opportunites to help empower women along their journey as we have been helped throughout our lives. Launching SistersConnection.com has been a collaboration to continue and expand what we are passionate about:

Helping other women succeed with their dreams and goals

We would love to have you share with us your stories of helping other women reach their goals.

Our current Focus charity is: DRESS FOR SUCCESS not only with professional interview suits and accessories but with volunteering our talents and connections. Kym with interviewing the DFS clients and hearing their stories to share on DFS website and in photography, myself as a personal shopper, actually working with the DFS clients in putting their interview suit together - then later after they are hired - an entire work wardrobe.

And to accomplish the goals of Sisters Connection - PriorityEventsbyTeeMcBee.com was formed to organize workshops and seminars that will not only spotlight local business women but to also empower and educate women with tools to improve our everyday lives and to reach our full potential.

We are all 'works in progress' reaching for more; satisfaction in relationships, deeper understanding of others and ourselves. Satisfaction in our spiritual relationship with the universe. Being more and giving more of ourselves.

Please join Kym and I on our journey

OUR DEEPEST FEAR by marianne williamson

I Love this.....we all need to remember this: I cried when I read this about hiding our light. My truth is I do this too.....

OUR DEEPEST FEAR
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing… Continue

My Day with the Elders....

Today I went to a scheduled vounteerism event at Eliza Jennings Senior care facility in Cleveland.

For me- the beauty of volunteering is a reminder to be grateful for things that I take for granted every day.
For me- some things are;
my child
family-
people who understand me and love me anyway-
food-
my home-
heat
lights
water
a bed
a hot shower
soap
television (I'll explain that later!)
my sister
my car
gasoline
my body and health
joy
laughter
and a million other things.

Back to my visit.. Mo… Continue
